Looking for guidance on timber sizes and spans? This is the latest version of the timber span tables published on behalf of TRADA, and it is referenced in the Building Regulations (Approved Document A). Long recognised as a key resource in timber specification and building, this publication has now been revised and updated to comply with Eurocode 5. EC5 Span tables is:
- The definitive reference guide for designers, specifiers and builders on timber sizes and spans
- Researched and written by timber experts at BM TRADA, on behalf of the Timber Research and Development Association
- Designed to supplement the England and Wales Approved Documents
- Applicable to timber design in other UK jurisdictions.

New features in this 3rd edition include:
- Timber specifications to BS EN 1912
- Loads from Eurocode 1 including the National Annex
- New snow loads for the UK.

Please note that this edition does not include trimmer tables, however there is a pack featuring both Eurocode 5 Span tables (3rd edition) and Span tables (2nd edition, based on British Standards, including trimmer tables) available via the TRADA bookshop. Trimmer tables will be added to the fourth edition of this book which is due for publication in Autumn 2014.
Eurocode 5 span tables contains section sizes and spans for solid timber members in floors, ceilings and roofs (excluding trussed rafter roofs) for dwellings. The calculations apply to buildings up to three storeys in height above ground level. Span tables were originally included in the England and Wales Building Regulations, Approved Document A: Structure and subsequently revised by TRADA.

Tables are included for domestic floor joists, ceiling joists and binders, and rafters and purlins supporting rafters for traditional pitched roofs. Calculations are also given for "canted" purlins supporting roof sheeting or cladding, and for flat roof joists. The tables cover softwood species and grade combinations which satisfy strength classes C16 and C24. Frequently asked questions are addressed in the notes alongside the tables.
